Wegovy Alone Isn't a Plan. We Make It One.

A prescription without support just means guessing on your own. Transform gives you a physician-led team watching your results with you.

Wegovy for Weight Loss

In short: if you're looking for a medication approved specifically for weight management, Wegovy (semaglutide) is one of two. It's a once-weekly injection, and in the clinical trial behind its approval, adults lost about 15% of their body weight on average over 68 weeks. Whether it's the right one for you depends on your health, your biology, your goals, and your coverage, which is what your physician helps you work through.

01 Wegovy: What It Is and How It Works

Wegovy acts like GLP-1, a hormone your body releases after eating. In plain terms: you feel full sooner, stay full longer, and the constant pull toward food goes quiet. Patients describe it as finally being able to hear themselves think around a meal.

Wegovy also has approvals that go beyond weight loss: lowering the risk of heart attack and stroke in adults with heart disease and overweight or obesity, and treating a type of fatty liver disease (MASH) with liver scarring.

02 Who Qualifies for Wegovy?

Wegovy may be a fit if you:

  • Have a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or prediabetes
  • Have heart disease and want a medication with a proven heart benefit
  • Want a medication approved for weight loss, which can matter for insurance coverage
  • Have tried to lose weight before and watched it come back

It may not be right if you have a personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers, a history of pancreatitis, or are pregnant or planning to be. Your physician will go through your full history with you. Wegovy is also approved for adolescents 12 and older, and Transform treats teens with a parent or guardian’s approval.

03 Wegovy vs. Ozempic vs. Zepbound

  • Compared with Ozempic: same active ingredient, but Wegovy is approved for weight management and goes up to a higher weekly dose. Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes.
  • Compared with Zepbound: Wegovy acts on one hormone pathway (GLP-1). Zepbound acts on two (GLP-1 and GIP), and in a head-to-head trial it produced more weight loss on average. Wegovy’s heart and liver approvals can make it the better fit for some patients.
  • A higher-dose option: besides the standard weekly injection, there is now a higher-dose weekly option called Wegovy HD, which Transform prescribes when it’s the right fit. Transform currently prescribes injections only, not the pill.

Not sure which fits? Our GLP-1 comparison page lays all four side by side.

04 Wegovy Dosing and What to Expect

  • Weeks 1 to 4: you start at a low dose. Many people notice their appetite changing early.
  • Months 1 to 4: your dose steps up about every four weeks until you reach the dose that works for you. This slow climb helps your body adjust and keeps side effects manageable.
  • Months 4 and beyond: weight loss continues to build. In the clinical trial behind its approval, adults on Wegovy lost about 15% of their body weight on average over 68 weeks.
  • Long term: Wegovy is designed as ongoing treatment. Your physician plans with you for what maintenance looks like.

05 Wegovy Side Effects and Safety

Wegovy can have gastrointestinal side effects. Managing those side effects is part of the care.

The most common are nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and stomach discomfort. They tend to show up as the dose goes up and often ease with time. Going at the right pace is a big part of what your physician manages, and the goal is always the same: find the right dose for you.

Wegovy carries a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors seen in animal studies, and it should not be used by anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. Other serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney problems, and low blood sugar when combined with certain diabetes medicines. It is not for use during pregnancy. Your physician reviews the full prescribing information and your health history before anything is prescribed.

06 Wegovy Cost and Insurance Coverage

Without insurance, the list price for Wegovy is roughly $1,000 a month or more. Novo Nordisk’s self-pay program currently offers the standard Wegovy pen for about $299 a month. Coverage depends on your plan and usually follows the FDA-approved use, so plans that cover weight management may cover Wegovy, and some plans cover it for its heart benefit.

Our team verifies your benefits before you start and walks you through cash-pay and financing options. Prices change often; our cost and insurance guide has current numbers.

07 Wegovy at Transform

Here’s what it looks like in practice. Before your first dose, we measure what’s actually going on in your body, because a scale can’t tell you what’s changing. At our Lynnwood clinic that includes a DEXA scan: body fat, muscle, visceral fat, bone density. Then we measure again as you go, so we know the weight coming off is fat and the muscle is staying put.

Your physician chooses the dose of Wegovy that fits you, standard or higher, and changes it if your needs change. And from your very first visit, we talk about what staying at your goal weight will look like, not after you get there. Because that’s the part most programs skip, and it’s the part that decides whether the weight stays off.

If medication alone isn’t enough, you don’t start over somewhere else. Surgical options are here, with the same team.

Bottom line: Wegovy is an on-label choice for weight management with the broadest set of approvals. With a physician managing it and a plan around it, it can be the start of weight management that lasts. It starts with understanding you.

08 Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for Wegovy to work?

Many people notice changes in appetite within the first few weeks. Weight loss builds over months as your dose increases, with results in clinical trials measured over more than a year.

Is Wegovy covered by insurance?

Some plans cover Wegovy for weight management, and some cover it for its heart benefit. Coverage varies widely, so our team contacts your insurance and verifies your benefits before you start.

Is there a Wegovy pill?

The FDA has approved a once-daily Wegovy pill, but Transform currently prescribes the weekly injection, which has the longest track record and the most research behind it.

Do I have to take Wegovy forever?

Wegovy is approved as long-term treatment, and many people regain weight after stopping. Your physician will build a plan with you, including what maintenance could look like.

Is Wegovy or Zepbound better for weight loss?

In head-to-head research, Zepbound produced more weight loss on average. Wegovy has heart and liver approvals Zepbound doesn’t. Which is better depends on your health history, your coverage, and how you respond.

How much does Wegovy cost a month?

List price is roughly $1,000 a month or more without insurance. The manufacturer’s self-pay program currently offers the standard pen for about $299 a month, and some insurance plans cover Wegovy for weight management.
